Birkacre Small Lodge
Yarrow Valley Country Park
Yarrow Valley Country Park
| Monday – Sunday |
The two lakes are set in the Yarrow Valley Country Park. The reservoirs were originally built to serve an old Bleach Works many years ago. The big reservoir was drained and left for a few years before a solution was found by Wigan AA and Chorley Borough council who took over the ownership and took all the silt and created the new Country Park/ Nature Reserve as it is now to be shared by everyone.
This is very popular with easy access for wheelchairs and easy parking. The Lodge is around 5 – 6ft deep and has lots of small skimmers, Roach and Perch and the odd Pike. The Environment Agency had to thin out the Lodge in 2014. In 2015 they stocked 1,500 very small Crucian Carp into each water. Some large Tench of 4+lbs have been caught in recent months with the odd good Bream.
